The Processing Laboratory is a component production site where blood collected throughout our footprint is shipped. Once the units arrive, they are manufactured into individual components to meet the specific transfusion needs of patients. The lab also prepares a variety of specialized products for patients in our community.
The IR laboratory addresses complex antibody workups to help find compatible units for those in need of a transfusion. Patients who have had multiple pregnancies and/or previous blood transfusions run the risk of developing antibodies. The IRL uses special techniques to identify these antibodies and find compatible transfusion units for patients throughout the BSI system.
The HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility run by an expert staff performing various levels of HLA-typing for bone marrow transplant and oncology programs across the United States. Their test findings help physicians make faster, more informed decisions while searching for compatible marrow transplant and platelet transfusion donors.
The CT Laboratory is dedicated to finding blood and marrow donors for patients undergoing treatment for certain kinds of cancers. When patients require healthy HPCs or need an HLA match, relatives and the National Marrow Donor Program® are considered. Throughout each stage of the process the cells are treated with care, from processing, cryopreservation, and storage to bedside preparation.
